Members Present: Chairman, Mark Springer; Supervisors, Nathan Kuntz and Dave Nehring; Clerk, Cyndy Meidinger; Road Supervisor/Zoning Board, Roy Kuil; Treasurer, Jamie Vetsch; Weed Board, Terry Mauch

Members Absent: Zoning Board, Jerry Kuntz; Assessor, Mark Splonskowski and Building Inspector, Greg Hillig.

Chairman Springer opened the meeting and stated the purpose of the meeting was a fact-finding mission to see how much support there was in the township for the proposed multi-use building the school board is considering building.

Chairman Springer stated a multi-use building/school had been discussed and voted on in the past and was defeated. He stated the aim of the school board was to make sure there was support for the proposed building because there will be considerable expense to the school board before anything can be done.

Supervisor Nate Kuntz and Zoning Member Kuil have been in conversations with Larry Brendel who owns the property behind the school who would be willing to sell some of the adjoining property to the school. He had also been in contact with an assessor and there needs to be a value placed on the land before an appraisal can be made.

During discussion with the audience some of the questions that were asked were the use of the proposed building. One of the big questions was will the school still be viable for years to come to warrant the expense for an additional building. Chairman Springer said the five-year projection has the school still open and the school should be financially viable by the school board projections.

Some of the possible uses of the building:

  1. A possible kitchen lunchroom, gymnasium, possible use as additional classrooms.

  2. The possibility of renting out the facility for other community and private functions.

  3. The question came up as to a size but that was not addressed at this time.

  4. Parking was also a question that needs answering.

  5. Suggestions to contact Menoken and Sterling to see what steps they went through and if they would have suggestions on what to do or not to do.

  6. Other open meeting discussions need to be held to get as much township resident input as possible.

  7. The main thing that came out of the meeting was a committee needs to be formed to find answers to the many questions before there can be concrete answers. It was determined there should be an application process for prospective committee members. That way a diverse pool of members can be chosen.

Chairman Springer stated that this was a positive meeting and a lot of areas were discussed. He will take back info gleaned from this meeting to the school board and get input from them.

Chairman Springer adjourned the Public Meeting regarding the proposed multi-use building @ 6:50 PM

Respectfully Submitted,

Cyndy Meidinger
